UMKC serves 14,000 graduate and undergraduate students, and is becoming more actively engaged in the city and the region. With a goal of becoming a model urban research university, the school is looking for ways collaborate in urban issues, as well as lead in life and health sciences.
Morton was previously senior vice president and chief administrative officer of Aquila, Inc., where he was involved in performance management, environmental services, human resources, and information technology. Prior to joining Aquila, Morton worked in a wide range of engineering and manufacturing positions with AT&T, Bell Laboratories and General Motors.

Susan B. Wilson, Ph.D., has a story to tell about overcoming adversity and balancing a multifaceted career and family. From the inner city of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Wilson overcame many obstacles to become a licensed clinical psychologist while single parenting. She spent much of her career in healthcare administration, working for St. Luke's Health System, Swope Health Services and Spofford. She later earned an MBA from UMKC's Bloch School of Business.
Wilson has always had a passion for public speaking and media. As a result, she took every opportunity to provide guest commentary for Kansas City television and radio stations. Currently she continues her love affair with radio as the host of “KC Currents" on KCUR-FM.
Wilson has served as a consulting psychologist to the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League, and has provided consulting services to not for profit organizations, government and businesses.
She now serves as Associate Dean for Cultural Enhancement and Diversity at the UMKC School of Medicine. Her responsibilities include recruitment and retention of under-represented minority students. She has been recognized by the Kansas City Business Journal with the Up and Comers Award and named one of the 100 Most Influential African Americans in Kansas City Award by the Kansas City Globe.

Mike Chesser joined Great Plains Energy in October 2003 as Chairman and CEO after a distinguished career in the utility industry. He previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer at Atlantic Energy, Inc. and President and CEO at GPU Energy, an electric utility serving New Jersey and Pennsylvania. At Great Plains, Chesser has been instrumental in developing Winning Inspirations - a corporate culture philosophy which is designed to inspire active participation of all employees at all levels.
Active in the business community, Chesser serves as a director of the UMB Financial Corporation, a trustee of the Midwest Research Institute (MRI) and the Committee for Economic Development (CED) in Washington D.C., and co-chair of the CED’s Sub-Committee on Education.
